For most of us, following a diet can be difficult on a daily basis, let alone during the holidays. Family gatherings and a lavishly laid table do not motivate us to stick to a set plan. There is no denying that the holiday season is probably the most difficult time for all those who have decided to fight for their dream figure. So does the only way to avoid extra pounds have to be to give up your favorite holiday dishes?
Of course not, as long as we remember the principles of healthy eating when preparing and eating meals.

Some practical tips:
- Don't assume that since you're going to break your resolution anyway, nothing will happen if you go all out. Don't go down that road! If you can't find anything for yourself on the Christmas Eve table, try to eat smaller portions first. Choose less fatty fish or fish with more protein. Instead of the very caloric bigos, choose cabbage with mushrooms.
- It's worth getting involved in preparing holiday dishes. Instead of giving up traditional dishes , try to prepare them in lower-calorie versions.
First of all, avoid frying foods, especially deep-frying them. Instead, choose healthier methods such as baking or boiling.
- Change the proportions. Instead of fatty bacon in traditional bigos, add more lean white meat. And when preparing holiday salads, replace regular mayonnaise with natural yogurt.
- Do you like desserts? If sweets are your passion, choose the smallest piece. You can easily prepare baked apple with egg white foam, salads and fruit mousses, cold cheesecakes.
- Remember that not all Christmas Eve dishes are very caloric. Properly prepared fish, dumplings with cabbage and mushrooms should not leave you with extra pounds.
- If you already know that you will not be able to stick to your diet, increase the frequency and intensity of your workout before the holiday season. Get to the gym 10 minutes earlier, extend your jog by 15 minutes, increase the load, try to mobilize yourself for an additional evening workout.
- A good way to deal with holiday calories is to lower the level of glycogen in your muscles. You can quickly achieve this by significantly increasing the intensity of your training, thereby increasing fat oxidation. If you decide to train on Christmas Eve, there is a chance that you will have a much smaller appetite. Intense exercise, contrary to appearances, reduces appetite.

- Alcohol is your enemy. Alcoholic beverages are unfortunately caloric and also increase appetite. However, if you cannot give up alcohol, choose red wine.
- Drink plenty of water or tea. This will keep your stomach full and you won't reach for more as often.
- Laugh until you burst out laughing. They say that a hearty laugh can burn as much as 3 minutes of aerobic exercise. So laugh and spend quality time with your loved ones.
- Don't sit at the table all day. If the weather is nice, take your family for a walk. Walking in deep snow for 15 minutes will burn 51 kcal, and during a snowball fight, 138 kcal.
- In-depth research by scientists has proven that when we are well-rested, the body secretes less ghrelin, a hormone that in our body is responsible for the feeling of hunger. So sleep long and without remorse.
- Remember! The most important thing is moderation!
