Some of you have probably discovered with some concern that after coming out of home isolation, your pants have become a bit too tight and your T-shirt too tight. Fortunately, gyms have reopened! If you are planning to get back into shape quickly and effectively, you are probably considering training under the watchful eye of a personal trainer, but have you thought about what to look for when choosing one? Don't make a decision too quickly - remember that you will be spending several hours a week with him!

Choosing a personal trainer

Think about your expectations

Each of us is different – what will be a great motivator for one person to work out may be completely ineffective for someone else. Before you start looking, try to define your expectations of a trainer. Think about whether you need someone who will authoritatively motivate you to constantly turn up the screws, or someone who will take care of a joyful atmosphere full of positive energy. Do you prefer someone talkative, who will make training go by in a flash, or do you prefer to focus on exercises in silence, and unnecessary chatter will quickly irritate you? It is worth answering these questions beforehand, then finding the right trainer will be much easier.

Recommendations from friends

Spread the word in your circle of friends. It may turn out that someone will give you the contact details of a proven trainer who will be a bullseye. Remember, however, not to take the opinions of your friends for granted. Take some time to find out why they recommend a given person and what their expectations were for the trainer. Ask about their work methods, training, certificates, punctuality and other personality traits that are important to you. All of these elements will be important from the point of view of your potential cooperation.

Opinions on the web

Another place worth checking out is the Internet, especially social media. Most trainers have their own Facebook or Instagram accounts, where they share their clients' transformations, their own sports achievements, or hobbies. When browsing a potential trainer's profile, it may turn out that you have similar interests, which will make it much easier to connect. You will also find a lot of opinions about individual trainers online, but remember to treat them as purely illustrative. As is common knowledge, the Internet is full of fake accounts.

Your gym team

The easiest, and in some cases the most effective, way to find the right trainer is to go to the gym and discreetly observe the work of individual trainers. A few minutes of observation is enough to see if a given trainer will suit you. You can also ask them for quick advice between clients. Even a short interaction can help you make a decision.
