A few words about DAA
D-aspartic acid (DAA) is an endogenous non-protein amino acid. It is produced in physiological reactions that take place in the pituitary gland, hypothalamus and testes.
Interestingly, DAA is also indicated to have a possible effect on increasing libido. DAA in the form of aspartic acid salt is a strong stimulant of sexual activity processes, influencing, among other things, sperm production in men. The effects of its action in the sexual sphere include:
- increased libido;
- increasing testosterone levels;
- improved erection;
- prolongation of orgasm (1).
D-aspartic acid controls the production of sex hormones, and thanks to its involvement in the production and release of testosterone, this acid promotes faster muscle mass development. For this reason, it often appears as one of the ingredients of supplements for athletes and physically active men (especially those practicing strength, speed and endurance sports).
Scientifically proven effectiveness
One study of 23 men evaluated the effects of taking D-aspartic acid supplements for 12 days. It turned out that 20 of the 23 men taking D-aspartic acid had an average 42% higher testosterone level by the end of the study. Interestingly, three days after stopping taking the supplement, their testosterone levels were still an average 22% higher than at the beginning of the study (2) .
In another 2012 study, the effects of taking D-aspartic acid supplements for more than a month were assessed. Researchers found that men (aged 27-43) who took the supplements for 90 days experienced a 30-60% increase in testosterone ( 3 ).
Use of DAA
Janusz Ziółkowski (BodyBuilding Magazine Polska) recommends taking DAA as an anabolic testosterone booster – on training days at a dose of initially around 2.5 g (max. up to 4 g) just before training, and on non-training days initially around 2.5 g (max. up to 4 g) in the morning.
A cycle on the anabolic testosterone booster DAA should last between 4 and 12 weeks. After its completion, there should be a break of several weeks, depending on how long our cycle lasted (4) .
